What does demigirl mean?
Demigirl means someone who does not adhere to the typical feminine gender roles, but also does not associate with masculine gender roles either. Demigirl is a gender identity term for a person who was assigned the female gender at birth but who does not fully identify with being a woman, socially or mentally.
Demigirl is a type of non-binary gender belonging to the subgroup of Demigender where the individual identifies himself partially as a girl. Your other half may or may not be defined, as that depends on the person’s preference.
Thus demigirl (or semi-girl) is the gender identity of someone who defines their gender as partially feminine, while the other half is unimportant, unspecified or another gender.
They usually have “she” and “hers” as pronouns, but it can vary according to the person’s particular taste. A person can identify himself as Demigirl regardless of his biological sex. Demigirl can also be considered biologically women who do not feel a significant connection to their sex but not to the point of suffering gender dysphoria.

Individuals who identify in this way are, like anyone who suffers from some type of gender dysphoria, part of the trans *spectrum (with an asterisk, since without it refers exclusively to the trans community) where the person feels comfortable calling the girl himself but she feels a kind of weirdness or misplaced when she is referred to by “her”.
People who are in the Demigirls usually tend to go for other non-binary identities like maverique, genderqueer, etc. Since they associate this nonconformity with the absence of gender instead of feeling completely uncomfortable with their body (that is, they consider themselves this way because they are satisfied with their body and do not want to transition, but regarding gender, they are unsure of the reason for their partial identity.)
Demiboy
Demiboy is a non-binary gender identity belonging to the subgroup of Demigender where the person partially but not totally identifies as a boy. Some people only use this label to refer to themselves, thus making their “other half” gender or simply feel only partially boys, and others who add certain identities such as “demi-neutrois” or “demi-polygender. “
Usually, they have “he” and “his” pronouns, but it can vary according to the person’s particular taste. A person can identify himself as Demiboy regardless of his biological sex.
Demiboy can also be considered biologically male people who do not feel a significant connection to their sex but not to the point of suffering gender dysphoria. We can also use it for transsexual men who still feel ties to “old sex”.
An agender (agender) is a person who defines themselves as genderless, so a demiagender (semi-agender) is partially genderless, while the other part can be unimportant, unspecified or another gender.
Their pronouns vary widely but are usually “they” and “their”, “them” and “theirs” in English. A Demiagender does not depend on his biological sex to identify himself.
The demiboy flag is from the same vector as the trans flag, and has these colours:
- Blue: Symbolizes masculinity or being a man.
- Light grey: Symbolizes being partially degenerate or genderless.
- White: Symbolizes membership in non-binary genres.
Discrimination is received mainly by those cisgender people who try to claim the non-existence of non-binary genres, saying that there are only two genders and you have to identify yourself as those genres.
The demiboys (and the demiagenders themselves) suffer from a type of dysphoria (thus characterizing themselves as part of the trans * spectrum, which is any person who suffers from some type of dissatisfaction with their biological sex or gender).
The demiboy is one hundred percent satisfied with being referred to by “him” but he doesn’t feel completely like a boy.
Demiagender
Demigender (Demi, from French, Meio + Gender, in English, gender) is an umbrella term that covers people who feel only partly related to certain gender identity.
It is a relatively new concept in the LGBTQIA + community, making it still unknown and / or little accepted.
Among the various “types” of Demigenders are Demigirl, Demiboy, Demiagender, Deminonbinary, Demiflux and Demifluid, but there are still several combinations to be recognized around the world.
What is gender identity?
There is no one way to exercise sexuality and affects, there are other ways to express them. A person’s gender identity can be independent of the sex they were born with and their sexual orientation.
When speaking of sexual diversity, reference is made to the different ways of expressing affection, eroticism, desire, and sexual and loving practices between people; These are not limited to couple relationships between a man and a woman, so it includes heterosexuality, homosexuality and bisexuality.
The term sexual diversity questions the idea that there is only one way to exercise sexuality and affects, making visible the existence of other ways of expressing them. It also includes the idea that a person’s gender identity can be independent of the sex they were born with and their sexual orientation.
Gender identity is the concept that one has of oneself as a sexual being and of the feelings that this entails; It is related to how we live and feel our body from personal experience and how we take it to the public sphere, that is, with the rest of the people. It is about the individual and internal way of living gender, which may or may not correspond to the sex with which we were born.
Although there is a diversity of gender identities, it is usually considered a spectrum with two extremes: the identity attributed to women and the one related to men.
However, we must remember that gender identity:
It is independent of sexual orientation and includes how a person names herself and presents herself in front of others.
It includes the freedom to modify body appearance or function through social gender roles, medical, surgical, or other techniques.
What difference is there between gender identity and gender expression?
The expression of gender is “the external manifestation of cultural traits that allow a person to be identified as male or female according to the patterns considered specific to each gender by a certain society at a certain historical moment”.
On the one hand, the expression of gender refers to how people interpret the gender of a particular person, regardless of how they identify themselves. Gender identity refers to how a person assumes himself, regardless of how others perceive it.
Gender expression is commonly considered to be a spectrum where one side is occupied by the feminine, traditionally attributed to women, and on the other side is the masculine, usually related to men. We must remember that gender expression is independent of biological sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.
What does the acronym LGBTI stand for?
LGBTI is an acronym that is used as a collective term to refer to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans (the term trans refers to transvestites, transsexuals and transgender) and Intersex.
Lesbian. A woman who relates erotically-affectively-lovingly-vitally with women. It is used as a synonym for the identity of homosexual women. It is an identity construction and it is also a way of self-denomination.
Gay. Alternative expression to homosexual, which is preferred for its political content and popular use. It is used synonymously with the identity of gay men, although some women also use it. It is an identity construction and it is also a way of self-denomination.
Bisexual. Erotic-affective attraction and a way of self-definition that is directed towards men and women alike. This does not imply that it is with the same intensity, at the same time or indiscriminately.
Transvestite. A transvestite person is one who expresses his or her gender identity – either permanently or temporarily – by using clothing and attitudes of the opposite gender that is socially and culturally assigned to their biological sex. This may or may not include modification of your body.
Transsexual. Human condition by which a person, having been born with a certain biological sex, has a gender identity (psychological sex) different from that which “corresponds” to him. The condition of being transsexual does not depend on whether or not the sex-generic reassignment is carried out.
Transgender. Human condition by which a person has gender qualities and behaviours (being masculine or feminine) that do not coincide with their sex according to social and cultural patterns, for which the opposite gender is identified or adopted. Wearing the opposite gender attire is the most blatant behaviour of transgenderism.
Intersexual. It refers to the presence in the anatomy of a person of sexual organs that correspond to characteristics of both sexes or structures that are difficult to define or are ambiguous from the logic that recognizes only two sexes.
Demigirl Dysphoria
There is no specific condition of dysphoria that is attached to being a demigirl, but many demigirls, like other people who struggle with coming out with their gender identities, may suffer from gender dysphoria, though confusing having a non-binary gender identity with gender dysphoria is wrong and should not happen.
Many demigirls may also experience dysphoria because they are referred to as or treated by others as a man, or some other gender identity that they don’t associate with, and that can be a troubling situation.
Some other demigirls may experience dysphoria because of how they feel about their body, and much like a growing person who feels uncomfortable in their body, demigirls may also feel like they don’t have the body that they should have according to the gender they relate to.
Some other demigirls may feel neither euphoria nor dysphoria, they may sometimes experience apathy about their gender and unless someone makes a big deal of it or tries to take away their right to assert their gender as it stands, they may not experience either of these feelings.
Instead of demigirl dysphoria, what a person might actually experience is simply, “yes, that’s right” or “no, that’s wrong” when it comes to gendering or gender related things and for many demigirls, gender is just a fact and means nothing about them or who they are because it is a very small part of their identity and personality.
